Peru: Ancient Sites and Healing

November 27th to December 17th,  2008

• visit ancient sites in and around LIma

• daily taiji practice with opportunity to learn some form during the trip

• get to know Don Victor, our shaman with a direct blood and tradition link to the healers of ancient Peru

• visit Huancabamba and the sacred lakes, a centre of pilgrimage for Peruvian coastal shaman

• relax on one of Peru's finest beaches - visit the nearby hot mud springs for deep regeneration

Your Guides

Dilwyn Jenkins will be leading this tour. With a passion for Peru and almost 30 years travelling the country, Dilwyn is an experienced tour guide and expedition leader. He has a Cambridge degree in Archaeology and Anthropology and has written all 6 editions of the Rough Guide to Peru. His Peruvian counterpart - Carlos Montenegro - is operational manager of the expedition and tour. Carlos is also an Anthropologist, a professional photographer and General Manager of Ecotribal Peru. Don Victor, a mature coastal shaman, will be our main spiritual guide who we will meet and work with in Tucume. Additionally, an authorised teacher from the UKTQF (UK Taiji Qigong Foundation: www.uktqf.co.uk) will guide the group gently through daily warm up and Chinese form excercises to induce good health, suppleness of body and mental stillness.

* Prices cover accompanying guide, taiji teaching, entry tickets, overland transport and accommodation (including tents supplied by Ecotribal and native huts) in Peru. They do NOT include domestic (Peru internal) nor international airfares (& Lima airport departure tax) to and from Peru, travel insurance (each tour participant is required to take out their own cover), meals (except while on jungle expedition), drinks or tips (though many breakfasts are included in the price).  If domestic flights are required within Peru, clients can purchase these directly once in-country.

Other Booking Conditions

a 20% booking deposit is required to reserve your place on the tour

the final 80% must be paid before the end of August 2008 (or your place and deposit may be lost)

Ecotribal Ltd reserves the right to change the itinerary and destination if circumstances reasonably dictate this course of action

Difficulty Level: relatively easy, at one's own pace and relaxed

Transport: buses and mini-buses, flights an option (paid directly in Peru)

Accommodation: lovely hostals, from flowery Lima patios to adobe constructions replicating ancient Peruvian architecture

The Group: normal size (8 to 12 people)

1	Thursday 27th Nov	Lima	Meet in Lima with airport pick up to lovely downtown hostal. Evening meal and group introductions.
2	Friday 28th Nov	Lima	Morning visit to the ancient temple of Pachacamac in the desert south of Lima. Fresh fish lunch by Pacific Ocean (vegetarian meal options always available). Afternoon visit to 5th century AD pyramid set in downtown suburbia. Evening meal in luxury restaurant at foot of pyramid.
3	Saturday 29th Nov	Caraz	Bus via Huaraz (7hrs) to Caraz (another hour) at 2285m above sea level. We stay in a delightful hostal.
4	Sunday 30th Nov	Caraz	Gentle country stroll to acclimatise in morning. Light lunch and visit to natural hot springs.
5	Monday 1st Dec	Caraz	Day trip to the remains of Chavin ceremonial centre (1200BC) and stone temple site, among the oldest evidence for ancient Peruvian religious cults. The temple has a San Pedro catcus in stione relief and underground ritual chambers.
6	Tuesday 2nd Dec	Caraz	Visit to deep blue lake Laguna Paron, hemmed in by towering glaciers. Picnic lunch by lake.
7	Weds. 3rd Dec	Trujillo	By bus to Peru's 3rd city, Trujillo in the northen desert. We stay out of town at a quiet beach resort with pool.
8	Thursday 4th Dec	Trujillo	Morning visit to the Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon) and Las delicias (traditional beachside shamanic quarter). After lunch we explore one of the largest adobe citadels ever - Chan Chan, centre of the Chimu Empire (1200AD)
9	Friday 5th Dec	Trujillo	A relaxing day on traditional fishermans beach where ancient caballitos de totora rafts are still used. Fresh fish lunch and evening drinks around the pool.
10	Saturday 6th Dec	Tucume	By bus to the city of Chiclayo with transfer to rural retreat at Tucume, northern centre of the Chimu Empire and home to the Valley of the Pyramids. We stay in a hostal designed along Chimu architectural styles.
11	Sunday 7th Dec	Tucume	After a luxurious fruit breakfast we explore the adjacent Valley of the Pyramids and onsite museum. The afternoon is for relaxing, exploring the ruins further or horseriding through the largest dry forest in the Americas.
12	Monday 8th Dec	Tucume	Morning visit to Don Victor, our shaman and spiritual guide. Afternoon visit with picnic lunch to Batan Grande, original home of civilisation in this region, replete with many more pyramids set against backdrop of desert woodlands and possibly the oldest tree in Peru, the focus of an ancient prayer tradition.
13	Tuesday 9th Dec	Tucume	Morning visit to Chiclayo market where we explore the shamanic section of stalls. Group briefing for evening/nightime healing session with Don Victor. Afternoon to relax and prepare. Session with healer and shaman (opportunity to partake of San Pedro or simply be cleansed and recieve advice).
14	Weds 10th Dec	Tucume	Day to relax, regroup, explore the Valley of the Pyramids on foot from hostal. Sleep.
15	Thursday 11th Dec	Piura	Travel by road via Piura to Huancabamba . - located up in the mountains, the most important shamanic community in Peru
16	Friday 12th Dec	Huancabamba	Visit to local healer and trip to one of the region's sacred lakes. Option of hrealing session with San Pedro Shaman at night.
17	Saturday 13th Dec	Huancabamba	Visit to the sacred lakes of Huancabamba. Picnic and relax.
18	Sunday 14th Dec	Mancora	Overland back to desert coast beach resort of Mancora where the sea is warm and we can find a quiet part of the beach to unwind, digest and discuss our experiences.
19	Monday 15th Dec	Mancora	Morning visit to healing hot mud springs. Afternoon relaxing on beach.
20	Tuesday 16th dec	Mancora	Day on beach. Prepare and share our final lunch together from local produce. relax, communicate and see how far we've got with our taiji.
21	Weds 17th Dec	Lima	Bus back to Lima (for those ready to leave!).
