Ecotribal Amazon Coffee Beans

3 May 2010

Ecotribal have been importing Ashaninka grown coffee coffee beans for four years.

The coffee we buy is grown under the shade of trees in small scale rainforest gardens on the lower slopes of the Andes.

We buy it direct from CUTIVIRENI, an indigenous Ashaninka community on the Rio Ene, and SANCORE (an Association of Ashaninka Coffee producers) who grow the coffee between 800and 1200m above sea level in the Peruvian Amazon. SANCORE means leaf-cutter ant in the Ashaninka tribe's language.

Although grown naturally, the scale of export is presently too small to cover the costs of organic certification. The purchase price paid to the producers by Ecotribal is above market and Fair Trade prices. Ecotribal is assisting the producers with technical workshops, field trips as well as the organic certification process.

For more information please see the Ecotribal Trading Coffee page and details of last year's harvest

or contact dilwyn@ecotribal.com
