Summer Tour - June 2004

After visiting Lima and Nazca, this tour was based in Cusco for most of the 3 weeks. Several of the group opted to hike the Inca Trail. A memorable experience for all, as always. We visited Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and many other interesting Inca sites in and around Cusco. Our last week focussed on eco tourism along the Tambopata river in what claims to be the most biodiverse rainforest area on the planet. There were few biting insects but we managed to see several monkey and bird species.

Comments from members of the tour group:

"Travelling with Dilwyn was the most relaxing and natural way of learning about real Peruvian culture, heritage and food! His passion for the country and it's people is contagious. I feel privileged not only to have seen some of the world's most famous and magnificent sites, but and also some of the most hidden and spiritual parts of the desert and mountains. A unique and inspirational experience!"

" 'Viva Peru Glorioso'
As you travel round Cusco you see these words etched in the hillside and so it is. Every day of our 3 week trip was a delight - from the bald-tired taxis of Lima, pelicans swooping over the breaking waves, the delights of swooping over the Nazca lines in a tiny plane doing figures of 8, 'monkey to right, monkey to the left', the skulls and bones from desecrated graves in the desert, the never ending celebratory processions in Cusco, amazing Inca buildings, horse riding across the top of the world, the stunning beauty and majesty of Machu Picchu and the privilege of sailing up the Amazon Basin to the awe inspiring jungle complete with tarantulas, howler monkeys and things that bite in the night! An extraordinary and very beautiful country."
