Ashaninka Shoulder Bags
Traditionally used for carrying knifes, hunting whistles and herbs, these make excellent and distinctive shoulder bags
These traditional Ashaninka shoulder bags are woven by the Ashaninka women for the men and children of their tribe. The organic cotton is grown in their small forest gardens within the Amazon rainforest, and the natural dyes used to colour the cotton are produced by many different plants provided by the rainforest. The use of home-spun cotton bags goes back at least 3000 years in Peru. Traditionally, Ashaninka men carry knifes, hunting whistles, bone flutes, and herbs gathered from the forest.
