Andean Textiles: Shoulder Bags

Andean Textiles: Shoulder Bags

Most of the woven woollen textiles on sale through Ecotribal have been made by Senora Hermenagilda of the Chincheros Community, an hour by bus from Cusco, high in the Peruvian Andes. She lives and works in Chincheros, once an important Inca settlement, utilising natural dyes and woollens, weaving with a traditional back-strap loom in the courtyard of her family home. Some of the table runners or wall hangings, are new in form to meet the demands of the world market, but still traditional in terms of design and symbolism of motifs.
