The Turkano are a tribe of around 5,500 individuals from the upper Rio Negro area of Northern Brazil and some Colombian tributaries.  It is made up a number of different groups. They group together to form one big tribe.  Well known for wooden and ceramic crafts, their designs are frequently geometric and abstract, though animal totems are also common.  Traditionally, all men assume bird names and the women are called after forest plants.
